We placed 7,500 leaf cutter bee cocoons at the residential lot in Gilbert. We are monitoring the status regularly. We visually inspect the site, monitor the temperature and humidity and observe the coming and going of the bees after they emerge into and out of the habitats.
We also placed a small number at Gene's house on Catamaran, Site 1a1. Gene has noticed significant activity especially in the filling of the small habitat he has.
Gene had this habitat for over three years with no activity. We think that the tubes maybe filled by a combination of the cocoons we hatched out and the population of local, native bees. Some of the bees observed entering were smaller and had different coloring on their backs.
