We have documented the costs (and travel) of the study in this spreadsheet.
Travel for the trip consisted of 17 trips, involving 23 travelers, covering 2730 miles over 211 hours.
We do so for two reasons:
1. In case any educational or other non-profit organization would like to do something similar you can get an idea of the possible costs. And we would note that most of the costs are discretionary (you might even say frivolous) or related to the website. The two major costs are the BOBs and the habitats. You should end the season with more BOBs if you are successful. And the habitats can be reused and are even better the following years (podcast with Dr. Steve Peterson, about the 15 minute mark). If you have any questions, feel free to contact us at any time.
2. We are NOT looking for donations to offset our costs. God has provided generously to us and we use the resources He has given us: “Based on the gift each one has received, use it to serve others, as good managers of the varied grace of God.” – 1 Peter 4:10
If you wish to support mason bee research we ask that you make a tax deductible donation to the Orchard Bee Association and reference ‘blueorchardbeesinarizonaproject’.
Note: Post updated on 9 Dec 2019 to provide latest and final data.
