We did our final check on the leaf cutter bee cocoons and habitats we placed at the Master Garden in Flowing Springs, Payson, about 90 miles northeast of Phoenix.
We decided to put a second batch of leaf cutter bee cocoons at the Master Garden in Flowing Springs, just north of Payson. The first time, there was a physical distance (5-10 feet) and no direct line of sight from the cocoons to the habitat. This time we will co-locate the cocoons and habitats in a shaded location.
We observed little or no activity.
We attribute this to not having conditioned the cocoons by keeping them at 86 deg F or higher for 18-21 days as recommended.
We did observe the significant bee activity as shown above on the tree oozing sap and the English Ivy plant.
