It’s time!

The soil temp is well above 70F, and the daytime air temp is above 80F for the foreseeable future.

The pH is in the pumpkin-liking range,

The patch is well fertilized, well-watered (an inch of rain earlier this week),

The patch is being roto-tilled again tomorrow,

And Friday or Saturday we’ll plant this year’s crop.

Will we hit a 1,000 pound pumpkin? Don’t know, but at least this year we aren’t growing a pumpkin on a rock.

We’ll see.

I’m thinking we won’t plant the pumpkins tomorrow, but will wait until Tuesday or Wednesday.

Those 80F days have evaporated for the immediate future.

Payson Pumpkin People Probable Frost

We do have black plastic warming the soil, and 1 gallon water bottles absorbing the heat that we will put around the new plants to keep them warm at night…

But I don’t think we will risk a late frost predicted for Monday night.
