Planting Buckwheat Seeds for the Leaf Cutter Bees

Previously we started a new set of leaf cutter cocoons and a habitat at our Gilbert residential site1a2i.

During our conversation with Wayne Mennie of JWMleafcutters, Inc he mentioned that leaf cutter bees and honey bees love buckwheat. Also, it is easy to grow.

So, we ordered three different buckwheat seeds. The first to arrive was OrOlam:

The package features a honeybee logo and "Best For Honey" text.

We decided to plant some of the seeds directly in the ground and attempt to sprout a set (germinate) for transplanting.

We will continue to monitor the progress of the bees and the buckwheat.
