Quick Payson Pumpkin People Update

9/2/2019 8:55 PM

While ten or more growers in the Payson area attempted to grow giant pumpkins this year, only one has succeed (that we know of):

Susie’s biggest fruit is pushing 100 pounds at her well-shaded Star Valley plot, deep in the forest and pushed up against a steep hill where ground granite soil has been running off that hill forever. Another pumpkin is right behind it. Both are putting daily weight, and are doing perfectly!

She reports using Glen’s Magic dry fertilizer (from Plant Fair) each week, plus freshly- dried horse manure, and then Ivory Soap applied with a spray bottle to the leaves each week to control pests. Her plot is about 15x40 feet, and one plant has filled it very nicely. The patch looks healthy and happy!
