Temperature and Humidity

Updated: Mar 23, 2019

We purchased five Ecowitt DS-102 temperature and humidity data loggers from Amazon.

These small devices log temperature and humidity at a user set interval (8 seconds to 4 hours) and are read via a USB interface. There is also a display that shows current conditions and some historical data. I give the DS-102 four stars out of five (****), downgraded one star for quirky software. But the device seems to function well for our purpose.

We placed one each at the Site1a1 and Site1a2 to get a feel on how they function and a comparison of readings in what should be a roughly similar environment. The complete data set can be found here.

The software also allows readout as images. Here is a comparison of the two sites for temperature and humidity.

Site1a2 Temperature, DS-102 Logger

Site1a1 Temperature, DS-102 Logger

The sites are less than 500 feet apart so the basic environments should be similar. Examination of the detailed log shows significant differences during the day due to different sunlight conditions. Night time temperatures track well.

Site1a2 Humidity, DS-102 Logger

Site1a1 Humidity, DS-102 Logger

Note the 100% humidity (rain) on the 12th and 13th. Site1a1 is in a more sheltered environment.
