We Added Another Habitat

Updated: Mar 16, 2019

Previously we deployed four habitats at two locations. Today we are adding another habitat to our current location Site1a2. This will be tracked as Site1a2c.

Site1a2c was placed at a height of 60 inches and includes a tube of ~80 UT cocoons, a mixture of paper tubes, wood tubes and wood block tubes. Note that these habitats are being reused from Gene's project last year. This improves their attractiveness to the bees (podcast with Dr. Steve Peterson, about the 15 minute mark).

Site1a2c is located about 15 feet south of Site1a2b on a six foot cinder block facing east.

Site1a2c center/left on wall, 15 feet south of Site1a2b.

After days of bad weather (rain, high winds, gusts to 36 mph) today was sunny with an expected high of 64 deg F, no wind. We observed many bees emerging from the PVC, going into and out of the wood block tube and visiting our local bougainvillea and pin cushion flowers.
